We are having a lot of "hard fun" at Preschool these days. I feel it is extremely important for children to learn how to learn. It is so important to have these little people learn how to think, and figure out the why of how things work, or what needs to be done to fix something or to create a new project. I feel it is important to help children become "problem solvers" so they can be independent learners and have confidence in their ability. We ask a lot of questions at Preschool to encourage students to think about solutions and the "why" of things. Children often ask "why?" repeatedly and it is because they really want to know. Students at this age are often ready for more advanced vocabulary than we expect. Ask "who, what, where, when, why" questions of your students to help them think through a challenge that might otherwise be solved quickly with an adult solution. Each person has a different processing time, some can figure out a response in a few seconds, while others take more thinking time. Neither is right or wrong, it is however, important to allow for this processing to take place and learning to occur. Great ideas will come - some quickly, some over time.
Just a reminder for those who may have missed this information.
